About the course

Advanced practical training for complex sinonasal, orbital and skull-base surgery.

Featuring a high faculty-to-delegate ratio, this course brings together surgical videos, live laboratory demonstrations, expert-led lectures and panel discussion on current and emerging approaches in sinonasal disease and skull base lesions, including CSF leaks and tumours.

The course includes a dedicated orbit session covering DCR, orbital decompression and orbital complications of ESS, with expert ophthalmologists on the faculty. Teaching is focused on practical, current strategies for optimum medical and surgical management of sinonasal disease.

Who should attend: Senior SpRs, consultants and other specialists wishing to improve their skills and knowledge in advanced sinonasal, orbit and skull base surgery. However the laboratory dissection can be tailored to delegates of varying experience in conjunction with the supervising faculty.

A focused 2.5-day format.

The outline below gives the planned structure for the course; timings and rooms may be refined before the event.

Day 1 – Wednesday 4 November

Anatomy, perioperative care and complications

Registration from 12:15 followed by radiological anatomy, sinonasal anatomy, perioperative care, complication prevention, anaesthetic considerations, frontal sinus anatomy and the role of ESS in the biologics era.

Day 2 – Thursday 5 November

Endoscopic sinus surgery, orbit and lacrimal approaches

Hands-on ESS dissection, extended frontal sinus approaches, orbital approaches, endoscopic DCR and orbital/lacrimal dissection.

Day 3 – Friday 6 November

MDT, CRS, tumours, skull base and advanced dissection

Rhinology MDT, contemporary CRS management, sinonasal tumours, skull-base reconstruction, frontal sinus dissection, fungal sinus disease, panel discussion and requested advanced topics.

Hosted at the University of East Anglia in Norwich. Teaching will use UEA lecture spaces and the Clinical Anatomy Suite at the Edith Cavell Building on Norwich Research Park, close to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. The facility is designed for practical anatomical teaching, high-tech teaching and learning, postgraduate specialist training and research, with updated formaldehyde-compliant infrastructure. Final room details and joining instructions will be shared with registered delegates before the course.

What is the difference between full dissection and observer places?

Full dissection delegates take part in the hands-on laboratory sessions. Observer places are for delegates who want to attend lectures, demonstrations and discussions without a dissection place.

How do I pay?

Is CPD accreditation included?

CPD approval has been applied for. The expected award is 18 CPD points, subject to ENT UK approval. This wording can be updated once approval is confirmed.

Will there be orbit teaching?

Yes. The programme includes a dedicated orbit session covering DCR, orbital decompression and orbital complications of ESS, with expert ophthalmologists on the faculty.

Is catering included?

Yes. Catering and refreshments are included during the course programme. The course dinner on 5 November is also included.

Is accommodation included?

Accommodation is not included in the delegate fee. Joining instructions and any local travel guidance will be shared with registered delegates before the course.
